One day a helicopter pilot was returning back to his base when the engine on the helicopter failed. The pilot immediately entered into an autorotation, resulting in a safe landing in a farmer’s field a quarter of a mile away from the farm house. As he approached the farm house, he noticed a young woman hanging laundry behind the house.
The pilot said, “Hello, I had an engine failure and need to call my base to let them know I had to make an emergency landing.”
The young woman looked at the young helicopter pilot saying, “We have a phone in the house. If it is a long distance call it is going to cost you.”
The young helicopter pilot said, “I don’t have any cash, I only have a credit card.”
The young woman, then looked at the young helicopter pilot, looking him over from head to toe. She replied, “I think I have a way for you to pay without cash.”
After the young helicopter pilot called his base the young woman lead him back to her bedroom. After an hour or so they emerged from her bedroom.
The young helicopter pilot kissed her and said, Let’s stay in touch, here is my number.”
Six years later the same pilot was flying over the same farm house. He saw the same woman hanging laundry just as she had six years ago. Since this was the first time he was over the area since their last encounter, he decided to land and she if she remembered him. He landed his helicopter a few yards away. As he walked up to the young woman he noticed a small five year old boy playing next to the woman.
The helicopter pilot asked, “Is that your son?”
The young woman looking at him replied, “He is our son.”
The helicopter pilot said, “Why didn’t you call me, I would have done the right thing.”
The young woman Turned back to her laundry saying, “When I found out I was pregnant my father had a family. The family decided that they would rather have a bastard in the family than a helicopter pilot.”
