Science Fiction keywords to use to get your book in the right search for your readers.

The Science Fiction Genre incorporates what is called sub-genres. From what I have learned so far, there are fantasy, action, adventure, thrillers, and romance. Now while these can be separate books, I have some if not all of these elements incorporated in the science fictions books that I have written. When you publish a science fiction book on Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) you are asked for keywords so readers can find your book.

When I published my first science fiction book, I only used two or three keywords. Wrong move Bubba. You need to use every space available to you. All of my science fiction books contain action, adventure, space, war, military, thriller, and romance. Of course, if your book does not have these elements then don’t list them, but if your book does have those elements in it LIST THEM. Keywords in KDP are the same as keywords for any website and Amazon is a BIG website with millions of books listed. The keywords are only designed to get your book listed in a search of millions of books so a reader can see your book. The science fiction section of Amazon may be as large as 40,000 books. Just how far down the list the reader is willing to scroll is whether or not they see your book.

Listing as many keywords as possible will get your science fiction book showing up in more sub-genres searches, where the competition my be less burial. But until you sales increase you still may be farther down on the search list than a reader is willing to go. If your marketing efforts are effective and your sales start to increase Amazon will increase your book’s rank. Once your book moves up in the Amazon rankings your book will move up on the readers search list allowing your book to be viewed by those readers that do not scroll all the way to the end of the search list. Keywords are a small part, but a needed part of the big picture in marketing your book. Don’t forget to ask for REVIEWS! Your book’s Amazon ranking depends on those reviews as well.

When I first got into this whole process of learning how Amazon works and what I needed to do to make Amazon work for me, I found it to be like an onion. Every time I peal back a layer I find more layers. As I learn more, so will you.
